Nonprofit changes name to Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley

Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley, Inc. is the new name for Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery.

Brain Injury Connections is a local non-profit that enhances the lives of individuals affected by brain injury through cultivating connections with information, services and resources. The organization was first founded in 2005 as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Brain Injury Connections combines public and private resources to provide specialized services for persons affected by brain injury in the Shenandoah Valley.

Jacob Penrod, President of the Board of Trustees, stated, “We have changed our name to Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley because the new name better describes what we do:  we provide essential connections and assistance for people affected by brain injury in our local area.  While our name has changed, our services remain designed to meet the needs of the individuals we serve and to maximize a person’s independence in the community.”

The non-profit organization’s main service is brain injury case management. Tamara Wagester, Executive Director, stated, “Our Case Managers provide an array of services to meet their clients’ needs including assistance with employment and education, daily living and personal care, housing, finances, healthcare, and many others.”

In early 2007, the organization was accepted as an affiliate member of James Madison University’s Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services (IIHHS). They began serving individuals with brain injuries in March 2007. In October 2009, Brain Injury Connections opened a satellite office in Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville. We will continue to include all communities currently served.

Brain Injury Connections is committed to serving those with the greatest need and least resources, and we do not charge a fee for services.
