Nighttime lane closures on Route 29 near Rio Road this week

Chris Graham

route 29Drivers on Route 29 (Seminole Trail) in the vicinity of Rio Road will encounter lane closures between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly this week. The closures will affect northbound traffic Monday through Thursday; the closure will shift to the southbound lanes overnight on Friday.

The work involves drilling and extracting core samples to determine the subsurface soil conditions. Those investigations are done as part of the engineering to prepare for the relocation of underground utilities prior to construction of the Rio Road grade-separated intersection.

Motorists should be alert for directional signs and traffic controls as they approach the work zone, slow down and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

More information about these projects, and other Route 29 Solutions projects, can be found on the project website, www.Route29Solutions.org. Information about other Culpeper District activities that will affect traffic is also available on Twitter at @VaDOTCULP and on VDOT’s website at: www.virginiadot.org/travel/travel_alerts/culpeper/default.asp.
