The Symetra Tour, the Road to the LPGA Tour, enters the home stretch of its season with the fourth to last event of the year at the Eagle Classic Presented by Bag Boy. The three-round event will begin on Friday, August 15, and run through Sunday, August 17, at Richmond Country Club.
The 144 player field will be competing for a share of a $100,000 purse with a top prize of $15,000. The top-10 on the year-end Volvik Race for the Card money list will receive their LPGA Tour cards for the 2015 season.
STACKED FIELD IN RICHMOND AS SEASON WINDS DOWN: With four events left on the Syemtra Tour schedule this season, the Volvik Race for the Card is coming down to the wire with players trying to earn as much money as possible heading into the final events of the year.
With such a tight race, every event matters and the best golfers on tour are out in force this week at the Eagle Classic Presented by Bag Boy.
Nine of the top-10 players, and 27 of the top-30, on the money list are in the field. The three players who are not playing this week are all competing at the Wegmans LPGA Championship.
The race for the final spots in the top-10 is so tight that players ranked between 10-16 are separated by a mere $2,776.
Additionally, several players can make a key push this week as with a $15,000 first place check, a player ranked 40th on the money list can theoretically make the move into the top-10.
VOLVIK RACE FOR THE CARD #2 MARISSA STEEN VISITS FEEDMORE: Volvik Race for the Card No. 2 Marissa Steen took some time out of her busy day to visit Feedmore headquarters. Feedmore is the charitable partner of the Eagle Classic Presented by Bag Boy.
“Visiting Feedmore was a great experience,” Steen said. “The size of the facility and the learning about the extent of their reach in Central Virginia was eye opening to me. They positively affect many people – seniors, families and children – who do not get proper nutrition. It was very rewarding to learn more about and experience what Feedmore does firsthand.”
Steen took a tour of the facility and even helped out by packing several boxes of food that will be distributed by the organization.
MAKE AN ACE WIN A CAR: During the pro-ams for the Eagle Classic presented by Bag Boy Symetra Tour players will have the chance to drive home in a new Cadillac ATS thanks to volunteer partner Moore Cadillac.
The par-3 6th hole will serve as the site for the drama with pros and amateurs alike taking aim at the new cars. All it takes is an ace!
EAGLE CLASSIC PAVES THE WAY TO THE LPGA: The Eagle Classic Presented by Bag Boy has seen six different winners in its six years of existence and five of those winners are currently competing this season on the LPGA Tour, including 2014 RICOH Women’s British Open champion and 2011 Eagle Classic winner Mo Martin.
In addition to Martin, Christine Song (2013), Paola Moreno (2012), Jennifer Song (2010) and Jaeji Kang (2008) have all seen action on the LPGA this season.
