Western Albemarle residents in need of specialty neurological care have a new choice in Crozet. UVA neurologist and neuromuscular specialist Sarah M. Jones, MD, now offers weekly neurology consultations at UVA Family Medicine and Specialty Care Crozet.
“We are expanding our services to give patients easier access to doctors they need,” says Jones, who also sees patients at the UVA Neurology Clinic in Charlottesville.
Jones has special training in electromyography (EMG), which is the main tool used to evaluate the health of nerves and muscles and helps diagnose neuromuscular conditions such as ALS and myasthenia gravis.
For patients with symptoms such as weakness or tingling in their extremities, an EMG study can also rule out some of the more serious diagnoses.
Sometimes an EMG is not needed, and the diagnosis can be made on a clinical basis. Dr. Jones is skilled in advising patients whether an EMG study would be helpful based on their specific situation, or whether a different test would be preferable.
As a specialist at the UVA Neurosciences Center, Jones works closely with a multidisciplinary care team that includes neurologists, neurosurgeons and therapists, among others.
Patients can make an appointment or learn more about the services at UVA Family Medicine and Specialty Care Crozet at 434.243.0700 or the UVA Neurology Clinic at 434.924.2706.
