Nats’ Ryan Zimmerman to rehab with Potomac on Monday

Ryan ZimmermanThe Washington Nationals have assigned INF Ryan Zimmerman to the Potomac Nationals for a rehabilitation assignment. The length of Zimmerman’s rehab assignment has not been determined. Zimmerman will play on Monday afternoon against the Frederick Keys (Baltimore).

The 33-year old Zimmerman has been on the Washington Nationals’ DL since May 12th, retroactive to May 10th, with a right oblique strain. Washington transferred Zimmerman to the 60-day DL on June 30th. In 33 games with Washington this season, Zimmerman has hit .217 with five home runs and 16 RBIs.

Zimmerman has appeared with Potomac on five other occasions, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2016. A first round pick by Washington in the 2005 MLB Draft, Zimmerman has played in 13 games with the P-Nats over his career. With Potomac, Zimmerman has gone 17-49 (.347) with six doubles, a home run, and nine RBIs.

In Zimmerman’s 15-year MLB career, all with Washington, he has hit .279 with 256 home runs and 953 RBIs. A two-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger winner, and 2009 Gold Glove winner, Zimmerman finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2006, and has finished in the top 20 in the National League MVP voting twice.

Monday’s series finale against the Keys is set to get underway at 12:05pm, while gates will open to Northwest Federal Field at Pfitzner Stadium at 11:00am.
