Nationals top Padres, 4-2, to take series

Jayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman homered, Joe Ross put up six innings of one-hit ball, and the Washington Nationals defeated the San Diego Padres, 4-2, on Thursday in Nationals Park.

Ross (5-5, 3.24 ERA) gave up a run on one hit in six innings, striking out seven and walking two.

Jonathon Papelbon earned his 21^st save despite giving up a run in the ninth.

Werth hit his fourth homer of the season in the sixth, and Zimmerman hit his 11^th home run of the season in the seventh.

Andrew Cashner (5-13, 4.05 ERA) took the loss, giving up three runs on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings.
