Nationals top Padres, 4-2, to take series

nationals_logoJayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman homered, Joe Ross put up six innings of one-hit ball, and the Washington Nationals defeated the San Diego Padres, 4-2, on Thursday in Nationals Park.

Ross (5-5, 3.24 ERA) gave up a run on one hit in six innings, striking out seven and walking two.

Jonathon Papelbon earned his 21st save despite giving up a run in the ninth.

Werth hit his fourth homer of the season in the sixth, and Zimmerman hit his 11th home run of the season in the seventh.

Andrew Cashner (5-13, 4.05 ERA) took the loss, giving up three runs on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings.
