Nationals listless in 8-2 loss to Philadelphia

Chris Graham

nationals_logoThe Washington Nationals are officially in mail-it-in mode. The otherwise hapless Philadelphia Phillies pounded Jordan Zimmerman and the Nats into an 8-2 win Friday night at Nationals Park.

With the New York Mets leading the Cincinnati Reds 12-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning at this writing, the Mets will have a magic number of one heading into Saturday’s action assuming that they hold on for the win.

Zimmerman (13-9, 3.68 ERA) was touched up for six runs on six hits in five innings, striking out six, walking two and giving up three home runs.

Jayson Werth hit his 12th homer for Washington, part of a 2-for-4, two-RBI night.
