Mudcats top Hillcats, 8-2

lynchburg hillcatsCarolina scored early and often on Wednesday night to put an end to the Hillcats four-game win streak. The Mudcats tallied eight runs on 16 hits and scored in six different innings to defeat Lynchburg by a final of 8-2.

Carolina got on the board in the second inning when Connor Lien knocked in Levi Hyams with an RBI single to left field off of Lynchburg’s starter Mitch Brown. The run was the first of four given up by Brown on a tough evening for the righty from Rochester, Minnesota.

Carolina got two more in the fourth. Dustin Peterson hit a lead-off home run, the first of two RBIs for him on the night. Carlos Franco followed with a double and later scored on a triple from Joey Meneses to make it 3-0.

A Connor Oliver home run in the fourth would finish off Brown’s line for the evening. Brown took the loss and allowed 10 hits and four earned runs in five innings of work. The fifth was his only one-two-three inning.

After giving up another run in the sixth on a Peterson RBI single, the Hillcats got a mammoth home run from Eric Haase that cleared the score board in left field to make it 5-1. It was Haase’s first of the year.

The teams traded runs in the seventh with Lynchburg getting it’s run on an RBI double from Bradley Zimmer, but Carolina scored two more in the eighth to defeat the ‘Cats by a final of 8-2.

The Hillcats finished with six hits, three of them belonged to Bradley Zimmer. Dustin Peterson ended up with four hits in his four at-bats, with two RBIs and was a triple away from the cycle.

Thursday night is Royalty Night at City Stadium. Fan’s wearing crowns or tiaras can purchase five dollar tickets at the Hillcats box office. Fans that can’t make it to the ballpark can tune in to ESPN Radio Virginia 93.3 FM or 1320 AM beginning at 6:10 for the Hillcats On-Deck Show.
