Wildfires: Motorists urged to use caution due in Amherst, Nelson

Contributors

wildfiresSmoke from wildfires in both Amherst and Nelson counties could result in issues for motorists and caution is urged.

Currently, smoke is creating difficulties for motorists on US 29 between Oak Ridge Road and River Road in Nelson County and on the northern portions of US 60 in Amherst County, as well as secondary roads in the area.

Visibility is greatly reduced in locations within immediate vicinity of the fires, as well as some distance away due to continuing winds.

If driving into these areas is necessary, remember to slow down, use low beam headlights, avoid passing or changing lanes, be alert for emergency and slower vehicles and do not stop on the roadway – pull as far as possible onto the shoulder if you cannot see.
