Moran, Wagner take leads in pre-primary polls

Chris Graham

Brian Moran has moved into the lead in the governor’s race, and Jody Wagner seems to be running away in the battle for the Democratic Party lieutenant-governor nomination, in a new Public Policy Polling survey out Tuesday.
Moran had been trailing Terry McAuliffe by a 21 percent-to-19 percent margin in the February PPP poll, but now leads 22 percent to 18 percent, with Bath County State Sen. Creigh Deeds gaining a point from last month to go from 14 percent to 15 percent.

The moves by all three were within the margin of error for the poll.

Moran is viewed favorably by 34 percent of the electorate surveyed by PPP. McAuliffe’s approval rating was 32 percent, and Deeds is viewed favorably by 31 percent. McAuliffe has a much higher unfavorable rating than the other two, at 29 percent to 15 percent for Moran and 12 percent for Deeds.

In the race for the lieutenant-governor nomination, Wagner is surging – getting the support of 21 percent of those polled by PPP. Her three opponents, Jon Bowerbank, Pat Edmonson and Mike Signer, are all at 4 percent.

Wagner had a marginal lead in the February PPP poll when she had the support of 9 percent of those surveyed.
