Mick Foley to NFL: Put on a coat, already

MICKsquaredThe wind chill was 12 below zero in Green Bay on Sunday, and yet you still saw players wearing short sleeves as if it was a bowl game in Florida, and not the reprise of the Ice Bowl. Mick Foley aims to do something about that.

“It’s about the image, Mick. Gotta protect the image,” Foley recalled, in a column posted to his Facebook page, a New York Jets player telling him a couple of days after playing a game in sub-freezing weather, and not wearing a coat or taking any other protections against the elements.

It took Chris Nowinski to bring attention to the serious issue of concussions. Foley is aiming a little lower with his cause, but he feels he can have an impact nonetheless.

“Maybe it will take another pro-wrestler – me – to draw attention to the NFL’s ongoing cold-weather apparel crisis. Come on guys, drop the image. We KNOW you’re freezing out there! No one will think less of you if you wear long-sleeves, wear a parka, or hold on to each other in the huddle or the sidelines for the simple comfort of human warmth,” Foley wrote.
