Just who is the elected leader of the Augusta County Republican Committee is still up in the air – officially, anyway.

But the man who was defeated in his bid for re-election is moving on as if he won a mandate at the disputed April 10 mass meeting.

Kurt Michael has called a meeting of the credentials committee of the April 10 mass meeting to certify delegates to the Sixth District Republican Party Convention and the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention.

The meeting will take place at the Augusta County Government Center Friday at 7 p.m., according to an e-mail sent out by committee vice chair Lynn Mitchell this evening.

Michael was defeated in his re-election effort last week in a 141-103 vote that gave the party chairmanship to Larry Roller. Michael won a disputed 57-2 vote after most of those who had attended the mass meeting had left. The Sixth District and state party committees have yet to rule on who should be the local party chair.
