Men’s soccer: VMI falls to Mercer

vmiPlaying for a second time in as many weeks against Mercer, the VMI men’s soccer team fell by a 5-0 score to the Bears Saturday night at Bear Field in Macon, Georgia.

The Bears (11-5) were paced by junior Will Bagrou’s two goals during the game as Mercer jumped to a 4-0 lead after the opening 45 minutes of play. Jake Mezei scored in the second minute of the game before Bagrou put in his first 10 minutes later. Mercer’s Max Poore and Cristian Medina would tally the other two goals for the Bears in the first half as the Bears cruised to the win.

Mercer was effective in its attack as the Bears outshot the Keydets by a 24-2 margin, including 11 on goal to VMI’s one. VMI (0-14) was led by junior Tyler Colgan and senior Dan Geyer, who both logged a shot attempt during the match.

The Keydets return to action Tuesday for Senior Day as VMI hosts Wofford at Patchin Field with a kickoff time of 4 p.m.
