vmi_logoPlaying in its last non-conference match of the season, the VMI men’s soccer team was defeated by a 4-0 score to Pitt Wednesday afternoon at Petersen Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The game was played on a rare midweek afternoon due to a postponement of its scheduled Tuesday night start because of inclement weather conditions.

Pitt’s Raj Kahlon put the Panthers up midway through the opening half (27:21) on a goal in which he beat a Keydet defender in the box and put the ball into the upper right corner for an early 1-0 advantage.

Later in the half, Panther Kevin Murray was fouled deep in VMI territory, resulting in a penalty kick opportunity at the 39:29 mark. Murray converted the kick to put Pitt up by a 2-0 score going into the break.

In the second half, Pitt added a pair of insurance goals as Kahlon scored his second goal of the game at the 65:41 off an assist from Kevin Angulo. Angulo then scored a goal himself from 12 yards out at the 75:22 mark to lift the Panthers to the final tally.

The Keydets resume Southern Conference play Friday with a road trip to East Tennessee State. Kickoff with the Bucs begins at 5 p.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tennessee.
