McEachin statement on Trump administration ending asylum for victims of domestic abuse

Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement on President Trump’s Justice Department refusing to allow asylum for domestic abuse victims.

“Frankly, I am shocked and disgusted at this miscarriage of justice. America has always been about offering refuge and sanctuary for individuals in serious peril. Victims of domestic abuse epitomize that circumstance. Their lives are in jeopardy; they live with the constant threat of violence. We have been the beacon of hope for the world, for those seeking a better life, for those pursuing opportunity. Now, we will refuse those who live in danger of harm or even death.

“I call on my Republican colleagues to reverse this travesty of justice and return America to the ideals for which it has stood. We owe it to those innocent victims.”
