Steven Matz gave up four hits in eight scoreless innings to lift the New York Mets to a 2-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
Matz (7-1, 2.36 ERA) struck out seven and walked one for the Mets (26-18).
The Nats (27-18) got back-to-back singles from Jayson Werth and Daniel Murphy in the ninth off Mets closer Jeurys Familia, but Ryan Zimmerman struck out and Anthony Rendon and Wilson Ramos each grounded out to end the threat.
Tanner Roark (3-4, 2.71 ERA) gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits in seven innings, striking out five and walking one.
Murphy was 2-for-4 at the plate on the day to raise his batting average to .394.
Daniel Wright hit a solo homer for the Mets in the top of the first, his sixth of the season.
