Mark Woods: Remembering our troops for their courage

As we embark upon another important presidential election, let’s not forget our real heroes; our brave men and women around the world who serve this great country and defend our nation against all attacks from our enemies both foreign and domestic.  Let’s remember the men and women of the United States Armed Services, both past and present, who have endured the trauma of waging war in order to bring about peace to protect our unique American way of life.

As a way to show thanks to the men and women of our armed forces, let’s make sure we do what we can to make their lives a little easier and to make sure they know that we as a people are always thinking of them.  That means supporting organizations such as Operation Troop Aid  and others to help the troops and their families.  We must let them know that we are thinking of them and standing by them.  It also means hiring our military veterans when they return home, helping them find jobs and helping them adjust to life back at home.  So whether its sending a care package to our troops abroad, writing letters, or hiring a military veteran in a small business or corporation, let us never forget the brave men and women that put their lives on the line every day to protect our freedom and our republic.  Our Republic depends on their service.

I served in the Navy for over 20 years and I saw firsthand the impact that sending a care package or writing a letter had to our brave men and women.  When you’re far away from home in a foreign land nothing makes our military feel better than Americans remembering the courage and sacrifice that our brave men and women make every day.  I encourage all of you to take the time to reflect and to thank the men and women who have served and continue to serve this great nation of ours and remember to say thank you every day to the greatest military in the world.
