What was a 165-vote lead in the state attorney general race for Democrat Mark Herring has now grown to 866 votes. Are we getting past the point where Republican Mark Obenshain can still be thinking about a contest of the 2013 election?
“This enormous undertaking has been conducted with great diligence by local election officials and with careful monitoring by hundreds of volunteers from both parties,” said Marc Elias, lead counsel for the Herring campaign during the ongoing statewide recount. “It is our expectation that the recount court will take up this matter in the morning, begin the process of resolving ballot challenges, and ultimately declare Mark Herring the winner, for a third time in this historic race.”
The 701-vote gain for Herring came with 73 percent of state localities having completed their recounts.
A three-judge recount court is expected to put a wrap to the recount process by the end of the week.
