Maple Festival 2013

AFP

photoThis was Highland Second Wind’s grand debut at the Highland County Maple Festival and it proved to be a great success.

The local council put together a beautiful “Festival Basket” chock full of maple products, books on local history, cookbooks, even a coloring book from the museum in McDowell.  Several local artists donated greeting cards with their original artwork, and much more.  For most of the visitors, the pièce de résistance were two lifetime passes to future Maple Festivals; that was the real hook!  Even though attendance was down from the previous year, more than 600 raffle tickets were sold and over $1200 was raised.

The drawing was held after closing on Sunday evening and the very happy winner was Ms. Bobbie Hefner of Monterey, shown here with her husband Ross and Kathy Solomon, Second Wind program director.

UVA Football: Why do you play games you know will end up 59-3?

I’m trying to find the value in 59-3 blowouts of FCS teams that won one game last season, to justify leaving the house last night to half-watch a UVA Football game that not even the TV people wanted any part of.
