Man dead in workplace accident in Augusta County

A 36-year-old man died in a workplace accident at Liphart Steel in Verona on Monday.

The man, identified as Thomas Breeden, was pronounced dead by fire and rescue personnel dispatched to the scene of the 11:52 a.m. incident.

According to a report from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, investigators learned that Breeden was attempting to slide the tandem axels on a flatbed trailer when he became pinned.

Breeden was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for an autopsy.

The death investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and VOSH/OSHA (Virginia Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
