Brogdon_Malcolm_12MVirginia senior guard Malcolm Brogdon (Atlanta, Ga.) was named first-team All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday (March 29).

Brogdon is the second UVA player to earn first-team All-America honors by the AP, joining Ralph Sampson who was chosen three straight years from 1981-83.

Brogdon, who has earned multiple first-team All-America honors this season, led Virginia to a 29-8 record and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance in 2015-16. Brogdon became the first player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to earn league player of the year and defensive player of the year in the same season. He averaged a career-high 18.2 points and finished his UVA career ranked ninth all-time in scoring with 1,809 points. Brogdon also ranks first on UVA’s career free throw shooting chart at 87.6 percent. Brogdon received second-team All-America honors from the AP in 2014-15.

Joining Brogdon on the first team were unanimous selections Denzel Valentine (Michigan State), Buddy Hield (Oklahoma), Brice Johnson (North Carolina) and Tyler Ulis (Kentucky). Valentine and Hield were unanimous selections, receiving 65 votes each from the national media panel that selects the weekly poll.

The second team consists of Jakob Poeltl (Utah), Ben Simmons (LSU), Perry Ellis (Kansas), Kris Dunn (Providence) and Georges Niang (Iowa State).

Grayson Allen (Duke), Yogi Ferrell (Indiana), Jarrod Uthoff (Iowa), Kay Felder (Oakland) and Jamal Murray (Kentucky) were named to the third team.
