An investigation into the discovery of a dead newborn has led to charges against a Lynchburg man.

Mialke Kevin Stewart, 38, of Lynchburg, has been charged with concealment of a dead body and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon in the case, which involves a juvenile female who apparently gave birth on Thursday.

The female, who has not been named by police, arrived at Lynchburg General Hospital on Thursday in need of medical attention. It was determined that she had recently given birth at a residence.

Officers responded to the home and located evidence of the birth but were initially unable to locate the child.

Detectives obtained a search warrant and conducted a thorough search of the residence, ultimately locating the deceased newborn.

Lynchburg Police are actively working in coordination with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the manner of death.

The department is consulting with the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office regarding any appropriate charges related to this case. LPD is also working closely with Social Services.

Stewart is being held at Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with relevant details is asked to contact Detective Dubie at (434) 455-6102 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900.
