Lynchburg District Traffic Alert: VDOT road work schedule for July 29-Aug. 2

VDOT has updated its schedule for road work and maintenance in the Culpeper District during the next week.

Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones.

(NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

Albemarle County

New Roadway Construction – Construction of a roundabout at Route 743 (Hydraulic Road) and Hillsdale Drive. The intersection closed July 8 and will reopen August 13 with a new traffic pattern. During the closure, all area businesses will remain open. Drivers should follow detour signs to get around the construction site.

(NEW) Pavement marking repairs – Expect mobile, alternating lane closures, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the following areas:

  • Route 20 (Stony Point Road), between Route 621 (Wolf Trap Road) and the Orange County line in the northbound and southbound lanes, Tuesday through Friday.
  • Route 22 (Louisa Road), between Route 231 (Gordonsville Road) and the Louisa County line in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Thursday and Friday.
  • Route 231 (Gordonsville Road), between Route 22 (Louisa Road) and the Louisa County line, Thursday and Friday.

(NEW) Litter pickup – Expect a mobile work zone with right shoulder closures from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the following areas:

  • Interstate 64, between mile marker 124 and 125 in the westbound lanes, Monday.
  • Interstate 64, between mile marker 123 and mile marker 125 in the eastbound lanes, Friday.

(NEW) Vegetation control near signs – Expect right shoulder closures in the following areas, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas:

  • Interstate 64, between mile marker 128 and mile marker 130 in the eastbound lanes.
  • Interstate 64, between mile marker 130 and mile marker 132 in the westbound lanes.
  • Interstate 64, Exit 129 (Keswick/Boyd Tavern), between the ramp and Route 616 (Black Cat Road) in the westbound lanes.

(NEW) Soil borings – Expect alternating lane closures, Monday through Friday in the following areas:

  • U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike), at Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road) in the eastbound lanes and westbound lanes, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Route 20 (Scottsville Road), between Route 1135 (Willow Lake Drive) and Hart Road in the northbound and southbound lanes, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway), at Route 20 (Scottsville Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road), between U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) and Route 680 (Browns Gap Turnpike) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Route 631 (Old Lynchburg Road), between Route 877 (Stagecoach Road) and Route 780 (Old Lynchburg Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Route 680 (Browns Gap Turnpike), at Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road) in the southbound lanes, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(NEW) Paving – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

  • Route 631 (Rio Road West), alternating lane closures between U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 743 (Earlysville Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, nightly, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Route 729 (North Milton Road), mobile, alternating lane closures between Route 732 (Milton Road) and U.S. 250 (Richmond Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, nightly, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Route 743 (Hydraulic Road), alternating lane closures between Swanson Drive and Route 743 (Earlysville Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes nightly, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Route 780 (Old Lynchburg Road), mobile, alternating lane closures between Route 631 (Fifth Street) and the Charlottesville City line in the northbound and southbound lanes, nightly, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Roadway sweeping – Expect mobile, alternating lane closures, 3:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the following areas:

  • U.S. 250 (Richmond Road), between the Charlottesville City line and Route 179 (Hansens Mountain Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Route 20 (Stony Point Road), between U.S. 250 (Richmond Road) and Route 1421 (Elk Drive) in the northbound and southbound lanes, Tuesday.

(NEW) Turn lane construction – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas, daily:

  • U.S. 29 (North Seminole Trail), right shoulder closures between Route 612 (James City Road) and Route 631 (Kirtley Road) in the southbound lanes, daily, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Route 20 (Scottsville Road), right shoulder closures between Route 742 (Avon Street Extended) and Route 1801 (Forrest Road) in the southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Route 1403 (Berkmar Drive), right lane and right shoulder closures between Route 1438 (Hilton Heights Road) and Route 1417 (Woodbrook Drive) in the southbound lanes, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bridge superstructure repairs/replacement – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas.

  • Route 20 (Scottsville Road), Temporary traffic signal with a traffic pattern shift at Route 708 (Red Hill Road). Route 708 is narrowed to one lane for construction on the bridge over the North Fork Hardware River in the southbound lanes. Please expect delays during high volume times of the day. Project completion date, Dec. 4, 2024.
  • Route 810 (Boonesville Road), Road closed at Route 628 (Simmons Gap Road) for

rehabilitation of bridge over the Lynch River. Follow signed detour around the work area. Project completion date, August 20, 2024.

(NEW) Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

  • U.S. 29 (29 Bypass), slow roll operation at the off ramp to U.S. 250 (250 Bypass) in the southbound lanes, nightly, 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike), alternating lane closures between Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) and Route 797 (Hillsboro Lane) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road), alternating lane closures between Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) and U.S. 250 (Ivy Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Route 240 (Crozet Avenue), alternating lane closures between Route 691 (Jarmans Gap Road) and Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Route 751 (Brownsville Road), both shoulders closed between Route 240 (Crozet Avenue) and U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Route 797 (Hillsboro Lane), right shoulder closures between U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) and Route 684 (Half Mile Branch Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Tree trimming. Expect a mobile work zone with right shoulder closures between mile marker 100 and mile marker 148 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Pipe repairs/installation. Expect left shoulder closures between mile marker 123 and mile marker 124 in the eastbound lanes, daily through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Shoulder repairs. Expect right shoulder closures between mile marker 107 and mile marker 114 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Interstate 64 – Other maintenance. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between mile marker 100 and mile marker 132 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Interstate 64 – Ditch cleaning. Expect right shoulder closures between mile marker 100 and mile marker 118 in the westbound lanes, daily through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 641 (Frays Mill Road) – Other bridge work. Road closed at Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) for replacement of bridge over Marsh Run. Drivers on U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) who need to access Route 743 north and west of the closure should use Route 607 (Cedar Grove Road). Expected completion date, Dec. 5, 2024.

(NEW) Route 729 (Milton Road) – Pipe repairs/installation. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) and Route 1120 (Milton Hills Drive) in the northbound and southbound lanes, Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Route 797 (Hillsboro Lane) – Rehabilitation project. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 684 (Half Mile Branch Road) and U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

City of Charlottesville

Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

  • Route 667 (Nalles Mill Road), occasional lane and shoulder closures between Route 799 (Keyser Road) and the Culpeper Town line in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road), alternating lane closures between Route 3 (Germanna Highway) and Route 672 (Stones Mill Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) U.S. 15 (James Madison Highway) – Paving. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 676 (Berry Hill Road) and Route 663 (Alanthus Road) in the southbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Route 646 (Old Stillhouse Road) – Pipe repairs/installation. Road closed between U.S. 522 (Sperryville Pike) and Route 714 (Dunkard Church Road). Please follow signed detour around the work zone, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 646 (Old Stillhouse Road) – Road widening project. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 628 (Weslyn Drive) and Route 635 (Hazeland Lane) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Route 688 (Countryside Lane) – Rural Rustic repairs. Expect alternating lane closures with flaggers between Route 647 (Batna Road) and Rapidan Farms Drive dead end in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fauquier County

(NEW) Sign updates – Expect right shoulder closures, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the following areas:

  • U.S. 17 (James Madison Highway), between Route 616 (Beach Road) and Route 744 (Lovers Lane) in the northbound lanes.
  • U.S. 17 (Marsh Road), between Route 813 (Goldvein Road and Route 615 (Gatwick Lane) in the northbound lanes.

(NEW) Pavement marking repairs – Expect mobile, alternating lane closures, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the following areas:

  • U.S. 15 (Eastern Bypass), between U.S. Business 17 (James Madison Highway) and the Warrenton Town line in the northbound lanes, Monday through Friday.
  • Business U.S. 15 (James Madison Street), between the Culpeper County line and U.S. 15 (James Madison Highway), Monday through Friday.
  • U.S. 17 (James Madison Highway), between Route 687 (Opal Road) and the Stafford County line in the northbound and southbound lanes, Tuesday through Friday.

Interstate 66 – Bridge deck repairs. Expect lane closures at the exit to Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) and between mile marker 32 and mile marker 34 in the westbound lanes. Please use caution through the work zone and expect delays. Use alternate routes if possible. Daily and nightly through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Route 643 (Meetze Road) – Paving. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 672 (Duhollow Road) and Route 28 (Catlett Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Greene County

(NEW) Foundation work for new signs – Expect right shoulder closures, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas:

  • U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail), at Route 616 (Carpenters Mill Road) in the northbound lanes.
  • U.S. 33 (Spotswood Trail), at Route 645 (Hastings Lane) in the northbound lanes.

Louisa County

Construction of a new roundabout – Expect alternating lane closures daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the following areas. Project anticipated completion date, Jan. 31, 2025.

  • U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) between Route 623 (Chopping Road) 0.3 miles north of Route 208 (New Bridge Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • Route 208 (New Bridge Road) between U.S. 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) and Alma Gaynelle Drive in the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Madison County

(NEW) U.S. 15 (James Madison Highway) – Foundation work for new signs. Expect right shoulder closures between Route 659 (Madison Mills Lane) and the Orange County line in the southbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

U.S. 29 (South Seminole Trail) – New roadway construction. Expect lane and shoulder closures between Route 662 (Shelby Road) and Route 677 (Estes Lane) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

(UPDATE) U.S. 29 (South Seminole Trail) – Bridge joint repairs. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 609 (Fredericksburg Road) and Route 662 (Shelby Road) in the southbound lanes, daily, daily through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Orange County

(NEW) Foundation work for new signs – Expect right shoulder closures, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas:
