Lynchburg completes sweep of Mudcats

lynchburg hillcatsTaylor Murphy and Anthony Santander each had two-out RBIs to give Lynchburg a 2-0 lead early in the game, and Sean Brady held Carolina to one run over six innings to help lead the ‘Cats to a 2-1 victory at Five County Stadium Sunday night.

Bobby Bradley opened the second inning with a double to right field. After the next two batters were retired, Taylor Murphycame through with a two-out single to give Lynchburg the first run of the game. In the third, Luigi Rodriguez singled and stole second base to be in scoring position with two outs for Anthony Santander. The switch-hitter grounded a base hit into right field to bring in Rodriguez and make it 2-0. Carolina’s only run of the game came on a leadoff home run by Tanner Murphy in the fourth inning. The score remained 2-1 from the fourth inning through the rest of the contest.

Sean Brady (7-3) earned his fifth win in his last six starts by holding Carolina to one run and four hits in six frames. Justin Garcia notched a hold with two scoreless innings of relief that included three punchouts. Trevor Frank logged his seventh save in eight chances with a perfect inning, striking out all three batters he faced. Enderson Franco (5-5) took the loss after allowing two runs on five hits in five innings for Carolina.

This marked the Hillcats’ first series sweep of Carolina since May 10-13, 2013, and only the second sweep of the Mudcats all-time…Lynchburg went 6-1 on its seven-game road trip to improve to 25-15 away from City Stadium…The Hillcats have a league-best 51-29 record overall.
Lynchburg returns home for a six-game homestand Monday at 6:30 p.m. There will be a special 4th of July Fireworks show presented by Kroger and Westover Dairy following the contest. Gates open at 5 p.m. Anderson Polanco (3-2, 2.70) will start for the Hillcats against Cory Jones (4-5, 4.85).
