Longwood University swept a home baseball doubleheader past visiting University of Buffalo from the Mid-American Conference Sunday at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville. The Lancers (15-5) have now won 13-straight games after taking game one against the Bulls (2-9) by a score of 8-2 and game two by a score of 5-4.

Freshman Matt Dickason|Chesapeake (Indian River) led the way in the opener with three hits and two RBI, and classmate Cory Ramsey|Petersburg (Matoaca) earned the pitching win with 7.0 strong innings, while freshman Scott Burkett|Williamsburg (Jamestown) hit a three-run home run, and junior captain Mark Montgomery|Williamsburg (Bruton) earned his sixth save in the nightcap. Longwood is idle until next weekend, March 19-20, when Le Moyne College visits Bolding Stadium in Farmville for a three-game series.

In the opener, Longwood fell behind 1-0 in the third as Buffalo got an RBI double from Tom Murphy (1-4, rbi). The Lancers tied it at 1-1 with a run in the third as well when junior Michael Sims|Stafford (North Stafford) (1-2, 2 rbi) led-off with a solo home run to left field. The Bulls went ahead 2-1 in the fifth after a lead-off homer by Daniel Scahill (1-3, rbi), but Longwood answered with four runs in the fifth to take a 5-2 advantage. Sophomore Justin Lacy|Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) (2-5, 2 rbi) hit a two-run double down the right-field line before Dickason (3-4, 2 rbi) contributed a two-run single. The Lancers added two more runs in the sixth via an RBI single by senior captain Chris Briere|Midlothian (James River) (1-4, rbi) and a sacrifice fly from junior Dustin Sollars|Midlothian (Cosby) (2-4, rbi), and the hosts scored a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Sims. Senior captain Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) (2-5) also had two hits in the first game as Longwood had 12 hits against three Buffalo pitchers.

Ramsey (2-1) started for Longwood and earned the pitching win with the first 7.0 innings, scattering five hits and two runs, one earned, with four strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Kyle Hall|Reedsville (Northumberland) tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings on the mound for the Lancers, allowing one hit with three strikeouts and no walks.

In the nightcap, Longwood spotted Buffalo a 4-0 lead after two at-bats as Jordan Camp (1-3, 2 rbi) had a sacrifice fly in the first while aided by two errors and a hit batter, and Camp added a run-scoring single in the second while aided by another error, this one with two outs that allowed two runs to score following a walk and another hit batter as well. Longwood scored a run in the second when junior Robby Newman|Virginia Beach (Salem) (1-2, rbi) led-off with a solo home run to left field, and the Lancers took the lead with four runs in the fourth as sophomore Scott Laabs|Glen Allen (Deep Run) (1-3, rbi) had a run-scoring single before Burkett (1-3, 3 rbi) blasted his one-out, three-run homer to straight-away center field beyond the 400-foot sign to give him a team-best 18 RBI this season. It would prove to be the final scoring of the day as the margin remained over the final two-and-a-half innings.

Sophomore Bobby Shelton|Forest (Jefferson Forest) (1-2) gained the Longwood pitching win with a scoreless inning of middle relief on the mound, yielding one hit with one strikeout. Montgomery retired the final five batters for the Lancers to earn his team-best sixth save this season, including one strikeout.
