Live jazz dance event brings fresh entertainment option to Valley

The Latin rhythms of Beleza Brasil and interpretive jazz sounds of the Bob Bennetta Quartet will fill the Shenandoah Ballroom of the Stonewall Jackson Hotel and Conference Center from 8-11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21 in the first show of the 2012 Shenandoah Concerts season, An Evening of Live Jazz and Dancing.

Shenandoah Concerts’ John Huggins describes how the dancing event was born: “An Evening of Live Jazz and Dancing is part of Shenandoah Concerts’ ongoing mission to showcase high-quality jazz and blues in Staunton. Local jazz fans have been telling me for some time they would love an event where they could dance to great jazz. This evening features top-notch jazz in the beautiful Shenandoah Ballroom of the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. It’s the perfect combination for a fun, sophisticated night out. “

Both bands contain seasoned local performers who tour, record and teach in the jazz field. Beleza Brasil, features Humberto Oliveira Sales and Madeline Holly Sales, a duo rich in experience and with an undeniable passion for samba, funk, soul, blues, bossa, jazz and Spanish flamenco. Berto’s training in classical guitar mixed with his knowledge of Brazilian rhythms and flamenco creates a unique finger-picking style that is the perfect backdrop for Madeline’s sensual, rich voice and playful delivery.

Bob Bennetta brings a reputation as the region’s top jazz pianist to lead a group of other highly-regarded jazz veterans in a quartet extraordinaire. The super group will also include the versatile Richard Adams, drummer Sam Brown and Bob Bowen on bass.

A special An Evening of Jazz lodging package is available from the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. It includes overnight accommodations, breakfast for two, parking and two tickets to the event for $153.00 per couple. Visit www.stonewalljacksonhotel.com to book this deal.

Doors open at 7pm and a late night food menu plus full cash bar will be available in the ballroom. Sorrel’s Lounge in the Stonewall Jackson Hotel will also be open during the evening. Advance tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Shenandoah Hops, 9 N. New St. or online at www.shenandoahconcerts.com. Tickets at the door will be $20.
