Shopping done for the day, the leftovers in the fridge, it’s time for hoops. Virginia (5-1) faces Queens (3-4) at 4 p.m. at JPJ.

Queens, playing out of Charlotte, N.C., is the preseason favorite from the ASUN, for what that’s worth – probably something.

Virginia is a 25.5-point favorite.

Update: UVA 13-5, 15:24/1st

Good start offensively. Queens came out in a zone for the first three minutes, and Virginia beat it with three made threes.

Sam Lewis hit two of those. Thijs de Ridder has a three and a layup.

Update: UVA 24-16, 9:08/1st

The offense lost its rhythm when de Ridder (10 points, 4-of-4 FG, 2-of-2 3FG) went to the bench.

De Ridder is +13 in his six minutes.

With him off the floor, there’s no go-to guy.

Jacari White had three clean looks from three, and missed all three.

Update: UVA 36-19, 4:23/1st

Johann Grunloh has hit a pair of threes.

Last week, I wrote about how his footwork was off on his jumpers, the issue being, he wasn’t getting set, was kinda stepping to the side, and it was throwing off his upper body form.

Today, you can see that he has fixed the issues. The lower body was quiet, his feet set, and he’s getting results.

Half: UVA 46, Queens 29

Another one of those weird statline halves. Virginia shot a modest 44.1 percent, only had three makes at the rim, and finished with 46 points on 31 possessions.

Only six second-chance points, only seven points off turnovers.

Four fast-break points.

But: 10 made threes.

Two each from de Ridder, Grunloh, Sam Lewis, Chance Mallory and Devin Tillis.

Other stat to highlight: 11 assists on the 15 made baskets.

Only had six on the 21 made baskets in the loss to Butler, and eight on 19 made baskets in the win over Northwestern.

Queens had 29 points on its 32 possessions despite shooting 29.0 percent overall, 4-of-14 from three and 3-of-9 at the rim.

Queens had 11 second-chance points.

Update: UVA 57-39, 15:27/2nd

This team plays with its food too much in these type games.

The focus on the defensive end wanes.

The defensive end is where this team needs to get better.

Update: UVA 65-41, 13:40/2nd

Dallin Hall picked up two cheapies, and went to the bench with three fouls.

He hasn’t scored, has four assists and two turnovers, and a -5 on the ol’ plus/minus scale in 16 minutes.

Chance Mallory has 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and no turnovers and a +21 in 15 minutes.

How many more times can I say it?

Update: UVA 76-44, 10:51/2nd

Not playing with their food anymore.

The NBA people wanted to see de Ridder against U.S. college guys.

He should be in the NBA now.

Like, he should declare and just go tonight.

Update: UVA 82-53, 7:16/2nd

Sam Lewis has the quietest 15 points I can remember.

He’s 6-of-8 from the field, 3-of-5 from three, four assists, one turnover, in 23 minutes.

Not flashy, just stuffs the box score.

Update: UVA 90-59, 2:51/2nd

Six guys in double figures.

Fifteen made threes; 10 makes at the rim.

The defensive rebounding has been awful.

Final: UVA 94, Queens 69

The drama at the end: the line on this one was 25.5.

When Isaiah Henry made the front end of that foul with 29 seconds left, half of the degenerate gamblers who plunked down money on this one rejoiced; the other half, we won’t say, but it wouldn’t have been pleasant to be around them.
