Virginia State Police Trooper J. Joiner is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash in Rockingham County that occurred Tuesday at 11 p.m. on Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road) 1 mile east of Route 820 (Bergton Road).

A 2000 Ford Contour was traveling west on Route 259 when it crossed a double solid yellow centerline, ran off the right side of the roadway, and collided with several trees.

The driver of the Ford, Jeffrey W. Causey, 33, of Linville, died at the scene of the crash as a result of his injuries.

Alcohol and speed are being considered factors in the cause of the crash.

VSP was assisted by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Bergton Fire and EMS, Broadway EMS, and Rockingham County Fire and EMS.
