Auditions for a world-premiere production of a musical about country-music legend Patsy Cline are on the schedule for Lime Kiln Arts in Lexington next weekend.

The auditions are set for Saturday, May 3, at 1 p.m. at the Troubadour Theatre at the corner of South Main Street and Henry Street in Downtown Lexington.

The musical will play at the Theater at Lime Kiln July 11-13 and July 18-20.

“The musical was adapted by Ms. Cline’s biographer, Ellis Nassour. In May he is releasing a new edition of his book, Honky Tonk Angel: The Intimate story of Patsy Cline, and we are producing this premiere to coincide with that. We are thrilled to work on this new piece with him and composer George Leonard,” said Kim Edward Renz, executive director of the Theater at Lime Kiln.

Those wishing to audition are asked to prepare a one-verse selection of a song, bringing either sheet music or a CD with only their selection on it. Renz encourages them to prepare a 45-second-to-one-minute monologue.

“They should also bring a representative acting resumé with headshot, if available. If not, they may fill out an information form,” Renz said.

“We are looking for the next Patsy Cline, that person who will be remembered for creating this role about a young, headstrong woman who defied the male power structure of the country-music industry and became an enduring icon,” Renz said.
