Liberty Women’s Soccer: Brandon West hired as assistant coach

liberty baseballLiberty women’s soccer head coach Lang Wedemeyer announced the hiring of new assistant coach in Brandon West.

“We are excited to have Brandon joining our program as an assistant coach. He shares the vision and mission of Liberty and our soccer program in helping develop Champions for Christ,” Wedemeyer said. “He has played and coached for one of the storied programs in the country and will be a valuable asset to the holistic development of our student athletes.”

West comes from Eastern University in Pennsylvania where he was the women’ soccer head coach for the past two seasons. Under his leadership, West guided his team to the conference playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time in five years. In addition to being the head coach, West also served as the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities at Eastern.

West brings a wealth of experience to Liberty as he also worked on the men’s soccer side serving as the goalkeeper coach at Eastern and was an assistant coach at Messiah College. West is well-connected in the recruiting field, having worked at the academy level with Dillsburg Area Soccer Club and the Falcon Soccer Academy.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to be a part of the Liberty University women’s soccer program. I would like to thank Coach Wedemeyer for providing me the opportunity to work for such an incredible program that looks to play the game the right way and want to impact the young women in the program academically, athletically and spiritually. He has a great vision for this program and I am excited to help cultivate the vision and culture for this program. My wife and I are looking forward to becoming a part of the Liberty women’s soccer family, and we have already felt so welcomed from players and those currently on staff.”

West played collegiate soccer at Messiah College from 2011-14. During his time at Messiah, West was the starting goalkeeper that led his team to the Division III National Championship in back-to-back seasons in 2012 and 2013. West was a NSCAA All-Region selection and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2012.

West replaces Josh Riffe on the staff, who left prior to the start of the 2018 season.
