liberty basketballLiberty defeated, Georgia State, 78-52, Saturday at the Vines Center, to get out to the program’s first 7-1 start since 1991.

After holding the lead throughout most of the first half, Elijah Cuffee made a three-pointer to end the first half to go into halftime with a 32-29 lead. That propelled a run to open up the second half, as Liberty scored on its first five possessions to take a 44-33 lead and the Flames never looked back.

Liberty would end up scoring on nine of its first 10 possessions in the second half, outscoring Georgia State 21-8 during that span.

“We are excited that we got the desired result, but for us we wanted to make sure that we got better tonight,” coach Ritchie McKay said. “This is a good Georgia State team and to play the way we did in the second half was outstanding. We have to take this in stride because it is only game eight of the season.”
