A pair of 15-0 first-half runs by Liberty set the tone for Saturday afternoon’s Big South contest against Presbyterian College. The Lady Flames went on to claim a 73-27 victory over the Blue Hose, extending their winning streak to four games.
An active, aggressive defense keyed the Liberty victory, as a season-high 19 steals led to 39 points off turnovers. The Lady Flames improve to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in Big South action. Liberty, now 4-0 during its current homestand, has won 41 straight January home tilts.
Meanwhile, the Blue Hose remain winless in 12 games away from Clinton, S.C., after shooting just 27.8 percent (10-of-36) from the field. Presbyterian College drops to 2-13 overall and 1-2 in the Big South.
Liberty roared out of the gates, opening the matinee with a Devon Brown three-pointer and an Amber Mays coast-to-coast layup during the first minute of play. Their baskets started a 15-0 game-opening run by the Lady Flames, which included a trio of triples by Brown.
Brown, a 2008 Waynesboro High School graduate, finished with 13 points and shared the team lead with five boards.
