Leigh Ann Solometo joins Augusta Health Cancer Center

Chris Graham

solometo_leigh1Leigh Ann Solometo, RN, BS, CBCN, has joined Augusta Health Cancer Center as its first Lung/Colorectal Cancer Nurse Navigator.

Her role is similar to Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator Meg Shrader’s—to support cancer patients and help them navigate the complex healthcare system by guiding them, answering their questions, and connecting them with the resources they need.

“I see myself as an advocate for my patients, offering encouragement, support and guidance throughout the cancer journey,” says Solometo.  “I am an experienced nurse and a cancer survivor myself.  I strongly believe that every person and every family member should be treated with respect, compassion and the highest standard of care.”

Solometo received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from James Madison University and her AD in Nursing from Belleville College.  She has worked in both the Operating Room and ICU, and as a Breast Care Navigator, for the Inova system in northern Virginia.  In 2011, she received the Inova Health System Compassion Award.  She is a Certified Breast Care Navigator (CBCN) through the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).

When away from work, Solometo likes to garden, quilt and spend time by the river.
