Late surge pushes Oregon State past ODU in Paradise Jam, 61-56

oduODU (1-2) fell to Oregon State (3-0) by a 61-56 score in the First Round of the 2018 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam on Friday afternoon at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports & Fitness Center.

After leading by two at the half, two Justice Kithcart three-pointers helped extend ODU’s lead to nine (53-44) with 7:29 remaining in regulation; however, the Beavers closed the game on a 17-3 run.

B.J. Stith led three Monarchs in double-figures with 15 points, to go along with six rebounds and one steal. Ahmad Caver followed with 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Kithcart (4-5 FG, 2-2 3PT) scored a career-high 10 points in 13 minutes of work. Old Dominion’s bench outscored OSU’s, 27-9 for the contest. The game experienced five ties and two lead changes. ODU led for a total of 23:01, the Beavers held a lead for 12:58 and the game was tied for 3:37.

After trailing 11-2 at the 13:14 mark of the first half, the Monarchs utilized a 16-3 run over a seven-minute span to claim an 18-14 lead. ODU took a two-point advantage into the locker rooms at halftime, 26-24. B.J. Stith led the way for the Monarchs in the first half with six points. Old Dominion’s bench outscored Oregon State’s 14-3 in the opening 20 minutes.

ODU will face either Kennesaw State or Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3:00 p.m. EST. In regards to radio, due to a conflict with ODU Football, this game will air on FAMOUS 1310AM WGH in Hampton Roads. Doug Ripley and Dave Twardzik’s pregame show will begin at 2:30 p.m. EST on Saturday afternoon.
