First-year guard Sylven Landesberg was voted the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year, the league announced Tuesday.
Landesberg was a convincing winner in the voting by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association, receiving 55 votes to 20 votes for runnerup Al-Farouq Aminu of Wake Forest.
Landesberg leads ACC freshmen in scoring with 16.8 points per game and minutes played with 34.1 minutes per game. He is also third among ACC rookies in rebounding (6.0 rebounds per game) and assists (2.7 assists per game).
The 6-5 New York City product is the fourth UVa. men’s basketball player to be named rookie of the year in the ACC, joining Ralph Sampson (1980), Bryant Stith (1989) and Chris Williams (1999).
Landesberg’s 12 20-point games are a UVa. freshman record.
