Keynote speakers named for W&L entrepreneurship summit

washington and leeThe 2016 Washington and Lee University Entrepreneurship Summit, hosted by the J. Lawrence Connolly Center for Entrepreneurship at W&L, will take place Sept 23–24. The keynote speakers are Ben Sutton, co-founder and chairman emeritus of IMG College and Erika Hagberg, the head of Food and Beverage at Google.

Both Sutton’s and Hagberg’s lectures will be Sept. 23 in Stackhouse Theater, Elrod Commons. Sutton will speak from10:10 to 11:05 a.m., and Hagberg’s talk will be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

The lectures of the keynote speakers are free and open to the public.  Those attending the complete summit must register by Sept. 16 (entrepreneurship.wlu.edu ).

Sutton was chairman and CEO of IMG College, the largest college sports-marketing company and top college of professional sports sales organization in the U.S. IMG College focuses on four different enterprises including multi-media, ticketing, stadium seating and trademark management.

A graduate of Wake Forest University with a B.A. and a J.D., Sutton has received numerous awards including Wake Forest Distinguished Alumni Award, National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, awarded by the governor of North Carolina.

In her position at Google, Hagberg’s team partners with global companies to design solutions that solve business challenges. She builds brands digitally across all screens utilizing Google’s search, video, social and mobile offerings. Prior to being with Food and Beverage, Hagberg built the financial services advertising sector of Google, where she was responsible for developing relationships with its largest partners in banking, insurance and investments.

Before joining Google in 2005, Hagberg spent five years with Time Inc., where she held various roles in corporate marketing, including the Fortune/Money group. Prior to Time Inc., she worked at AOL in business development. She is a graduate of W&L’s Class of 1997.
