JMU women’s soccer defeats UMass, 2-1

jmu logoGoals from junior forward Rachel Ivey (South Riding, Va./Freedom) and sophomore forward Sydney Braun-McLeod (Ottawa, Ontario/Glebe Collegiate Institute) led JMU to a 2-1 topping the University of Massachusetts women’s soccer at University Park Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Fairfield Inn by Marriot JMU Invitational.

JMU improved to 2-0 on the season while UMass fell to 0-1-1 this year.

For their efforts through the opening weekend, Ashley Herndon (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge), Ivey, redshirt senior forward Sam Lofton (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and senior forward Katie Hyland (Islip, N.Y./Islip) were named to the JMU Invitational All-Tournament Team. Herndon finished the weekend with a goal and two assists while Lofton had two assists, both of which came in Friday night’s 2-1 win over Xavier. Both Ivey and Hyland scored a goal in the tournament.
