JMU to host Princeton in NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament

The James Madison lacrosse team will host Princeton Saturday (May 14) at 1 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the JMU Lacrosse Complex.

JMU was seeded eighth in the 16-team tournament. The field was announced Sunday night.

The Dukes, ranked 11th in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association national poll last week, earned an automatic NCAA bid as the Colonial Athletic Association champion. JMU beat Towson 8-6 in Saturday’s CAA title match on the Tigers’ home field to improve its record to 15-3. It marked the Dukes’ eighth CAA title in the last 15 years.

Princeton beat Harvard 12-10 Sunday to claim the Ivy League title and earn an automatic NCAA bid. The Tigers have a 11-6 record that includes a 10-5 loss at JMU on March 16 in Harrisonburg.

“It gives you a huge sense of pride in a year where there’s so much parity that JMU can earn one of those top seeds. I’m proud of the team… (and its) consistency this year to be able to host the Princeton Tigers,” said JMU head coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe.
