JMU gets Wofford in I-AA playoffs

Chris Graham

The top-ranked James Madison Dukes will open the 2008 I-AA football playoffs in Harrisonburg next weekend against the Wofford Terriers.
JMU capped a 10-1 regular season with a 58-27 win at Towson on Saturday. Wofford finished the ’08 regular season at 9-2 with a 35-10 win over Furman this past weekend.

The time of next Saturday’s first-round playoff game will be announced on Monday.

The Dukes and Terriers have one common opponent – Appalachian State. Madison beat App State 35-32 in a September game that the Mountaineers led in Harrisonburg by a 21-0 count before the Dukes stormed back in the second half. ASU pulverized Wofford by a 70-24 final on Halloween in a nationally televised game before coming back to win their final three regular-season games.

JMU won its final 10 games after dropping its opener at I-A Duke 31-7.

Wofford’s other loss came at South Carolina by a 23-13 final.
