JMU football opens at new Big 10 member Maryland

jmu logoThe new era of JMU football begins Saturday as Head Coach Everett Withers leads the 2014 Dukes in the season opener at Big Ten Conference-newcomer Maryland.

The game is being televised on the Big Ten Network, with Joe Beninati on the call, Scott McBrien with the analysis and Frank Hanrahan on the sidelines.

The Coaches:

  • James Madison Head Coach Everett Withers (Appalachian State, ’86) is in his first season at JMU and his second as a head coach overall with a 7-6 record.
  • Maryland Head Coach Randy Edsall (Syracuse, ’80) is in his fourth year of coaching the Terrapins, with a 13-24 mark, and 16th season as a head coach overall, sporting an 87-94 record.

History With Maryland: This will be the third time that the two schools have met on the playing field, with Maryland having won both games. It is also the third time in the last 16 years that the two team have met in the season opener and the previous two were close. In 1998, Maryland earned a 23-15 victory over JMU, while the 2009 matchup ended in overtime, the Terps escaping with a 38-35 win.
