James Madison alum eliminated in Olympic archery

James Madison alumnus and former JMU archery team member Jacob Wukie (’08) was eliminated in the round of 32 in the individual archery competition at the 2012 London Olympics Tuesday morning.

He advanced to the round of 32 by defeating Jayanta Talukdar of India in straight sets 6-0 in the round of 64 Tuesday.

Wukie lost 6-2 to Baard Nesteng of Norway in the following round.

Against Talukdar, Wukie won the first set 27-22, the second set 30-26 and the third set 29-28.  He scored 86 of a possible 90 points and shot five consecutive perfect 10s during the match.

Against Nesteng, Wukie won the first set 28-24 before losing 29-28 in the second, 29-27 in the third and 29-28 in the fourth.

Wukie won a silver medal with Team USA in Saturday’s team competition.
