Interstate 81 pavement testing in Rockbridge County rescheduled again

Pavement testing expected to take place tonight on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County has been postponed due to weather. The new schedule is 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, until 7 a.m. the following morning. The testing requires mobile left-lane closures on northbound Interstate 81 from mile marker 185 to 195. This work also requires a short detour for eastbound I-64 traffic near Lexington.

For about four hours on Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, eastbound I-64 drivers headed northbound on I-81 will enter southbound I-81 to exit 188A (Route 60/Buena Vista). Drivers will then use the off- and on-ramps at this exit to take I-81 northbound. Signs and variable message boards will direct motorists on the detour route.

All work is weather permitting.
