Interstate 81 lane, ramp closures in Shenandoah County, Frederick County, overnight on Aug. 15

interstate 81Brief ramp and right-lane closures are scheduled for the night of Wednesday, August 15, at three interchanges along Interstate 81 in Shenandoah and Frederick counties. Each closure is expected to last no more than 30 minutes, during the time period of 10:30 p.m. through 5 a.m. the following morning.

The lane and ramp closures are for soil and rock testing at the following locations:

  • I-81 Exit 296 (Strasburg) – the on-ramp from Route 55 to northbound I-81, and the off-ramp from southbound I-81 to Route 55. The northbound and southbound right lanes from mile marker 296 to 298.
  • I-81 Exit 315 (Winchester/Berryville) – the off-ramp from northbound I-81 to Route 7. The northbound right lane from mile marker 315 to 316.
  • I-81 Exit 323 (White Hall/Route 11) – the off-ramp from northbound I-81 to Route 669, and the on-ramp from Route 669 to southbound I-81. The northbound and southbound right lanes from mile marker 323 to 324.

Virginia State Police will help enforce these traffic restrictions, and variable message boards will advise motorists of detour routes for the ramp closures. All work is weather permitting.
