Local News: Pilot injured in Augusta chopper crash

A Tennessee pilot was injured Tuesday morning after his helicopter crashed in the middle of a cornfield in Augusta County. Virginia State Police were notified at 11:20 a.m. about the crash located in the 2600 block of Cold Spring Road in Greenville.

Brian Keith Lacks, 41, of Arlington, Tenn., was flown to the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was on board the helicopter, and no injuries were reported on the ground.

The pilot was operating a Hughes 369D helicopter and was hired by the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative to trim trees along power lines. Preliminary information indicates Lacks was heading back to refuel when his engine quit without warning.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified, and the crash remains under investigation.

Drinking Liberally Staunton is set for its June monthly meeting at the Irish Alley Restaurant and Pub today at 6 p.m.

Irish Alley is located at 19 W. Johnson St.

 

Event: Special night at Pump It Up for autistic children

Pump It Up of Harrisonburg will be hosting a Sensory Night for children with autism and their families on the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. starting tonight.

The children and their parents and siblings will jump, bounce, slide and play on huge, colorful inflatables. Pump It Up’s giant, colorful inflatables promote special needs children to exert physical activity, improve their gross motor skills and eagerly socialize with other children.

Along with the excellent opportunity to get special needs children out and socializing with other children, 20 percent of the Sensory Night proceeds will benefit the Shenandoah Valley Autism Partnership.

 

Local News: Assessments lawsuit update

Churchville attorney Francis Chester will update citizens of Augusta County on the real estate assessment issue, where the lawsuit that he filed this spring on the assessments stands now, and where it goes next.

The event is today at 7 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor St., Staunton.
