I-81 project work postponed this week to rain

Due to forecasted rain early this week the 24-hour single southbound lane closure is canceled for the period of April 10 to April 14. The I-81 In-Place Pavement Recycling Project is located in the I-81 southbound lanes, south of Staunton near exit 217 at Route 654 in the Mint Spring area and exit 213 at Route 11 in the Greenville area.

There will be five more planned block closures between April 15 and June 9. A single closure block is scheduled to begin on Fridays at 9 p.m. and ends the following Thursday at 7 a.m. During the block closures I-81 southbound will be reduced to one lane in the work zone.

The next 24-hour block closure is scheduled for April 15 at 9 p.m. to April 21 at 7 a.m. For a complete closure listing please visit www.VirginiaI-81Pave.org for project information.

All work is weather permitting. If crews complete their work early, lanes may reopen sooner than stated.

The I-81 In-Place Pavement Recycling Project valued at $7.6 million was awarded by Commonwealth Transportation Board on Dec. 8, 2010 to Lanford Brothers Co. of Roanoke Completion is scheduled for November 2011.
