Have you been considering decluttering your home? We are here to tell you that there are so many benefits to this! Not only will it look better but you will feel so much better too. The Kent removalists experts are here to share even more. Keep reading as we explain how to declutter your home.
The first step is to get rid of the big things. You know what they are. These are the things that are taking up space, big and bulky, and you know deep down should go. There are things that you will need to take a second look at, but these first things you know. Perhaps you know that you have not used that casserole dish in over 5 years. Perhaps you know that your couch needs to go and either it’s time for a new one or you have one too many in your house and you didn’t know what to do. Go look in your closet and even look at what clothes you have not worn in the past year. Perhaps you have changed jobs and don’t need them anymore. Perhaps you have lost weight and just need to part ways with some of the items. That is why the first step should be relatively easy. Take a couple hours and you can place a sticky on the things that need to go NOW. You don’t have much hesitation about it, you’ve known for a while.
The next things that you want to look at are the “maybe’s”. These are the things that it may hurt a little to part from, but you haven’t used it in over a year, you have not worn it in a while, and you never use it anymore and just hold onto it “just in case”. Those are the things that really clutter your home. It can be a bit overwhelming because for most people, this is the largest pile. You may need to go through two or three times to truly find all of the things that you want to get rid of. After going through it once, go back and take a closer look. We bet that you only got half of the things. Be honest with yourself and start going through the items one by one. If you are feeling unsure, you can ask a family or friend if they think you have been using it. Ask them for their option if they would keep it. Give them both sides of the argument. A second option could really help. With that said, if you are asking that second opinion, chances are it’s time for it to go.
Once you have gotten rid of some things, many people realize how much better they are feeling. They realize that it’s so much easier to clean the house, they realize that it looks nicer when they have people over, they realize that everything seems simpler and less cluttered. When this occurs, it’s typically a switch and a lot easier for people to be a little bit more cutthroat about what they are getting rid of. If you hit this point, try spending a couple of afternoons going through things again. You may not have opened closets or areas because you figured there is nothing in there that you want to get rid on. In fact, there really was and you didn’t realize how much stuff you really need.
If you have a spouse or children, you will want them to get on board. It can be difficult if you are in the zone of getting rid of things and they are not. Explain to them why this is important to you and how everyone can benefit from getting rid of some things. If they are children, perhaps you can share with them a lesson about donating their old toys or clothes. This will help your home to get an overall deep cleaning clutter and not only certain areas.
Many people also have a hard time getting rid of stuff because they think it is simply going in the trash. The thing is, you can put things in other places than just the trash. You can put things in a pile to donate to either goodwill or another place that is for a good cause. You can sell it online, especially if it is new and make a few dollars off your old items that have not been used much. You can ask friends or family if they need any of your old items and feel good about rehoming some things that you were not using before. There are so many different piles that you can make. Finally, you can make a pile for junk in which isn’t worth donating, giving to a friend, and you don’t need it anymore. This pile you can find a good place to place it or you can hire a removal company that will simply stop by your home and grab it all for you quickly and easily. That way it can be done, and you don’t need to worry about it anymore!
As you can see, there are so many great perks to getting rid of items. It can make you feel a lot better, it can help your home look nicer, cleaner, and more organized, and it can help you donate it to people that can utilize those items in which you are not. We hope that this article helps you in decluttering your home and you are on your way to a beautiful home that feels clutter-free.
