Homesley’s double-double leads Liberty past Kentucky Christian

liberty basketballLiberty played in its final non-conference home game of the season on Saturday, at the Vines Center, that resulted in a dominating 96-55 win over Kentucky Christian, to improve to 7-0 at home this season for the first time since 2008, during head coach Ritchie McKay’s first stint at Liberty.

Liberty applied pressure on Kentucky Christian’s defense from tip-off, making its first six shot attempts of the game, as Elijah Cuffee scored eight points in the first three and a half minutes of the game. While Liberty shot 59.4 percent in the first half, its defense held Kentucky Christian to just 9-28 from the field, shooting 32.1 percent from the floor.

Liberty used its size to its advantage to start the game, outscoring Kentucky Christian 20-6 inside the paint in the first half.

“I felt like our guys did a really good job of sharing the ball,” Liberty coach Ritchie McKay said. “I think it is reflective in a game like this when you get away from a team, there is a tendency to improve your own stat line, but the reflection is the character of this group. They care about trying to execute and trying to be about the team and not the individual. I think that has warranted a good start to the season and hopefully we will continue to get better.”
