Head-on crash kills former Page County High School softball standout

Charges are pending in a fatal accident on U.S. 340 in Page County that killed a Luray woman.

Cassie N. Hutton, 28, died at the scene.

The second driver involved, Clarissa C. Sosa, 19, of Stanley, suffered serious injuries in the crash.

According to Virginia State Police, Sosa’s Volkswagen Passat was heading south on 340, near the intersection with Newport Road, when her vehicle crossed the center line.

Her Passat struck Hutton’s Hyundai Elantra head on, according to VSP.

The crash occurred on Oct. 15 at approximately 12:41 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation.

According to Hutton’s obituary, she was a graduate and standout softball player at Page County High School who helped lead the softball team to back-to-back state championships, in 2014 and 2015.
