Harrisonburg rallies, tops Waynesboro Generals in 11, 4-3

generals-turks2A Connor Lynch homer leading off the top of the 11th pushed the Harrisonburg Turks to a 4-3 win over the Waynesboro Generals on Sunday night.

The Generals had led 3-2 after seven innings after finally breaking through against Harrisonburg starter Justin Camp, who had put up six scoreless innings. Camp contributed to the three-run Waynesboro rally with uncharacteristic wildness, walking two, throwing a wild pitch and committing a balk that, coupled with a Julius Gaines (sophomore, Florida International) flyball single to right and an error that allowed JoJo Woods (junior, Central Florida) to reach, put the Generals in the lead.

Harrisonburg tied the game in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Eric Kalbfleisch.

Pike put the Generals down in order in the eighth, ninth and 10th in advance of the Lynch homer, his first of the 2013 Valley League season, on the first pitch of the 11th inning from Jeff Conley (junior, Alderson-Broaddus).

Quinn Griffith (junior, Salisbury) walked to lead off the bottom of the 11th, but was not able to advance from there.

The loss drops Waynesboro to 5-7 on the season and a season-high four and a half games behind the Staunton Braves (10-3) in the South Division standings.

Waynesboro travels to Staunton on Monday night. First pitch at John Moxie Memorial Stadium is at 7:30 p.m.

The Generals then travel to Rockbridge on Tuesday before returning home on Wednesday to host Winchester.
