generals-turks2Matt Hartman pitched six scoreless innings, and Harrisonburg rode a four-spot in the second to an early lead that stood up in a 7-2 win over the Waynesboro Generals on Sunday night at Linco Park at Kate Collins Field.

Hartman (1-0) gave up two hits, struck out seven and walked two in a solid effort for the Turks (6-3).

Waynesboro starter Connor Foltyn (0-1) was besieged by sloppy defense in the second, with two errors opening the door to the four-run inning, with three of the runs unearned, the earned run coming on a potential double-play grounder off the bat of J.J. Bissell that was misplayed by Waynesboro second baseman Stephen Pitarra that allowed a run to score and Bissell to be credited with a fielders choice RBI.

Foltyn went three innings on the night, charged with five runs, two earned, on five hits, striking out three and walking one.

Waynesboro scored two in the ninth on RBI singles by Kevin Phillips and Imani Willis to break the shutout.

The Generals (4-4) host South Division leader Staunton in a makeup game Monday night at 7 p.m.
